Information technology is used as an umbrella term for the study of computer systems, software, and networks. This field encompasses many different career paths, including cybersecurity, software development, and data analytics. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in computer and information technology are projected to grow 15% from 2021 to 2031, which is faster than the average for all occupations.

If you’re interested in pursuing a degree in information technology, you may want to look into IT scholarships for students. The Education Data Initiative estimates that private organizations award over $7.4 billion in information technology scholarships each year.

In this guide, we’ve rounded up some notable opportunities for students seeking IT scholarships, cybersecurity scholarships, and even software development scholarships.

General Information Technology Scholarships

A number of general scholarships are available for information technology students. These scholarships are geared toward all students and do not have restrictions on race or gender. Here are some of the more prominent opportunities.

1. AFCEA STEM Major Scholarship

The AFCEA Stem Major Scholarship is offered by AFCEA, an international organization for those in communications, electronics, and information technology for defense, homeland security, and intelligence communities. The scholarship offers $2,500 to undergraduates meeting certain eligibility requirements.

2. AIAS Foundation Scholarship

The AIAS Foundation Scholarship is offered by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Foundation, which connects the entertainment, creative, and business community for professional development and more. The award is available for graduate students or early professionals.

3. CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service Program

The CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service Program, offered by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies, gives awards from $25,000 to $34,000 to students intending to serve in a cybersecurity role within the U.S. government for the length of their scholarship.

4. Edison Scholars Program

The Edison Scholars Program scholarship of $50,000 is offered to 30 high school seniors who wish to enter careers in the STEM fields, including computer and information systems. It is intended for those living in the service territory of Southern California Edison.

5. Generation Google Scholarship

The Generation Google Scholarship, offered by Google, is for computer science or computer engineering students. The amount is $10,000 for full-time students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD.

6. The Gladys Carol Scholarship

The Gladys Carol Scholarship for high school seniors and undergraduates is offered in memory of a woman who stayed home raising children instead of attending college. The award is up to $5,000 for two years of study.

7. (ISC)² Undergraduate Scholarship

The (ISC)² Undergraduate Scholarship is administered by the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. Up to 20 scholarships, from $1,000 to $5,000, are offered for those pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, or a similar field.

8. Malwarebytes Scholarship

The Malwarebytes Scholarship is offered by the cybersecurity company Malwarebytes. Ten scholarships of $10,000 each are offered to junior college, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing a career in cybersecurity.

9. Rural Tech Fund Cyber Security Scholarship

The Rural Tech Fund Cyber Security Scholarship is awarded yearly to three students from rural communities in the United States. The award is $1,000 each, with additional opportunity to take courses from the SANS Technology Institute.

10. SMART Scholarship Program

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) is funded by the Department of Defense. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation.

IT Scholarships for Women in Tech

These scholarships for women in tech were established to encourage their entry into the information technology field.

11. Adobe Research Women-in-Technology Scholarship

The Adobe Research Women-in-Technology Scholarship is awarded to outstanding female undergraduate and master’s students studying artificial intelligence or machine learning, computer science, data science, or web development. The award is $10,000 and also offers the opportunity to interview for an internship at Adobe.

12. Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship

The Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship $1,000 award is for female, full-time undergraduate students. Students should have completed at least one academic year in computer engineering, computer science, or related technical field.

13. Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship

The Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship is a $500 grant for women pursuing careers in technology. It is awarded to one high school or college student.

14. ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship

The ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is offered by a global security company. The three $15,000 scholarships are available to female graduates and undergraduates looking to begin a career in cybersecurity.

15. KnowBe4 Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship

The KnowBe4 Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is administered by the Center for Cyber Security and Education. It is for women who are pursuing or plan to pursue a career in cybersecurity, information assurance, or a similar field. The award is $10,000 for one recipient.

16. Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship

The Palantir Women in Technology Scholarship is offered by a data analysis company. Scholarships are offered to women to enable them to pursue computer science, engineering, and technical studies. Recent awards were for $7,000 each.

17. Raytheon Intelligence & Space Women’s Cybersecurity Scholarship

The Raytheon Intelligence & Space Women’s Cybersecurity Scholarship is also administered by the Center for Cyber Security and Education. It offers $10,000 for female high school seniors, undergraduates, or graduate students pursuing cybersecurity or information security degrees.

18. Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program

The Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program is for women studying in community college, undergraduate, or graduate programs for engineering, engineering technology, or computer science. Scholarship award amounts vary.

IT Scholarships for Students of Color

These scholarships are focused on providing opportunities to students of color in information technology and related fields.

19. BETF Corporate Scholarship Program

The BETF Corporate Scholarship Program is offered by the Black Data Processing Associates (BPDA). It is for diverse applicants enrolled in a STEM-related major, with an emphasis on information technology.

20. Blacks at Microsoft Scholarship

Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) offers 45 scholarships—four renewable $5,000 scholarships and 42 one-time scholarships of $2,500 each. Applicants are required to be of African descent.

21. Great Minds in STEM Scholarship

The Great Minds in STEM Scholarship is for Hispanic/Latino applicants who are leaders or in service in their communities. Applicants must pursue a degree in engineering, math, science, or technology. Awards range from $500 to $5,000.

22. Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Foundation Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship

The ESA Foundation Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship is for minority and female students. Applicants must pursue a degree in computer or video game arts and sciences.

23. American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Aristocrat Scholarship

The AISES Aristocrat Scholarship is for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a career in a field related to casino gaming, including software development, supply chain, technology, and other related fields. Native Americans, Alaskans, Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Indigenous Canadians are eligible.

24. HITEC Foundation Scholarship

The HITEC Foundation Scholarship is for Hispanic and Latino students, from high school seniors to undergraduates, to community college students to graduate students. A one-time $5,000 award will be given out.
