How drones, AI ignite innovation in fire science, emergency management technology

When managing fires and disaster response situations, firefighters and emergency management personnel are often using tools including precise thermal imaging, AI, drones for aerial assessment and geographic information system (GIS) data mapping equipment. These and other technologies allow first responders to anticipate hazards and understand fire behavior in real time.
Joshua Shanley, an emergency management faculty member at Purdue Global who has more than 30 years of experience in emergency services, says these innovations have directly improved firefighter safety and have helped prepare emergency responders for dangerous conditions.
In this video, Shanley discusses how technological advancements are fundamentally reshaping the fire service. He talks about the impact of AI on the industry and how these advancements are opening new opportunities for those working in the fire sciences.
