Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States, claiming a life every 34 seconds. The good news is that small, everyday choices can make a big impact in keeping your heart healthy.

February is American Heart Month, which is a perfect time to focus on keeping our hearts healthy. Brooke Hanner, a Purdue Global School of Nursing faculty member who teaches medical-surgical and intensive care clinical courses at Purdue Global’s simulation center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, says that improving heart health doesn’t mean changing everything at once.

In this video, Hanner talks about how small changes like taking short walks, making one healthier food choice a day or keeping track of your blood pressure can make a big difference over time. She says small steps in the right direction truly support long-term heart health.
