Martin McDermott, PhD

Dr. Martin McDermott has been teaching at Purdue Global (formerly Kaplan University) since 2005. His expertise in entrepreneurship has given him an opportunity to host an hour-long weekly national radio show on entrepreneurship and franchising on and Blog Talk Radio, the largest Internet talk station with over half a million listeners.

Dr. McDermott has been interviewed by Franchise Times magazine, Anita Campbell's national radio show Small Business Trends Radio, CBS Radio, WVOX's Go Brand Yourself, the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal, and the L Times. He has interviewed people such as Michael Gerber, author of the successful E-Myth Revisited and Dr. Scott Shane, author of The Illusions of Entrepreneurship and Born Entrepreneurship, Born Leaders.

In 2010, he presented at the 5th European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Athens, Greece as well as the 6th, 7th, and 8th Annual Mason Entrepreneurship Research Conference at George Mason University in Virginia. Dr. McDermott was recently published in the 2015 Entrepreneurial Executive journal for a study called, "Franchise business ownership: A comparative study on the implications of military experience on franchisee success and satisfaction.

Dr. McDermott's research interests include marketing and entrepreneurship. He lives in Williams Township, Pennsylvania with his wife Conni and son Martin.

This award goes to one individual and is considered one of the highest honors for a professor among Purdue Global's staff of over 1,600 instructors and student body of over 36,000 students. In 2005, he was selected for the Who's Who Among America's Teachers."
