Catherine Flynn, PhD

Dr. Catherine Flynn currently resides in Cañon City, Colorado with her family. She has more than 20 years of experience in higher education. She has also worked as an editor for Communications and Global Communications (a trade journal) and as the director of distance learning. Her areas of expertise include integration of synchronous components into distance learning and communication strategies in an electronic and global business environment.

Dr. Flynn has taught at a number of online and campus institutions during her teaching career, including Colorado School of Mines, University of New Mexico, Central New Mexico Community College, Western State of Colorado, and Colorado Technical University. She holds a graduate degree in English as well as a doctorate in management. Catherine is a strong supporter of literacy programs and works in her community to support childhood reading and literacy.

Dr. Flynn and her family have been a foster family for the past five years and have cared for more than a dozen children. Building a strong community of parents and families is important to her. She serves as a parent advisor in her county’s Youth Advisory Council program.

In addition to her work teaching and supporting lifelong learning, Dr. Flynn models health and fitness along with her musical gifts. A long-distance runner, she has completed two half-marathons and numerous abridged runs in her community this year. She also provides accompaniment on the piano for her children who are also gifted musicians.

Dean's Message

“In her role as a professor at Purdue Global (formerly Kaplan University), Dr. Flynn serves as faculty sponsor for the business honor society Sigma Beta Delta. She also provides editorial review for the quarterly newsletter published by the Ambassadors and Leaders organization. In addition, Dr. Flynn hosts the new Student Success Seminars with new graduate students in the School of Business and Information Technology. She numbers this among her favorite activities, and believes it is a wonderful way to inspire new students.

Dr. Flynn is interested in the application of business strategies to the delivery of distance learning, balancing pedagogical processes against business concerns. She has presented at dozens of business and distance learning conferences during her professional career and has been interviewed for several articles on distance learning.
