David Starnes, PhD
David Starnes is vice president of academic operations and serves as chief academic officer for Purdue Global. In this role, he plays a central part in fulfilling the University’s mission and vision, and is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of academic operations, policy, curricula, assessment, and learning. He also leads records, reporting, curriculum, and governance.
Starnes joined Purdue Global (formerly Kaplan University) in 2005 and has served as adjunct faculty, department chair, and assistant dean in the School of Business and Information Technology, as well as vice provost. He has been instrumental in driving innovation and creativity resulting in improvements such as Purdue Global’s modularized curriculum, competency-based education programs, and state-of-the-art learning management system.
Prior to joining Purdue Global, Starnes’ career in manufacturing, both as a senior executive and owner of automotive supply organizations, provided him opportunities to expand his experience in customer service, process re-engineering, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and project management.
With a focus on strategic management, organizational change, and leadership, Starnes earned a PhD in management from Walden University and a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Management from Davenport University.
Starnes also holds his commercial, instrument, and flight instructor pilot certificates from the Federal Aviation Administration.
